Aftab Alam Khan has obtained BSc (Hons) MSc in Geology from Dhaka University Bangladesh and BSc (Hons) MSc PhD in Applied Geophysics from Indian School of Mines Dhanbad. He has served as a teaching staff in the Sulaimania University Iraq, University of Mayala Malaysia, Rajshahi University Bangladesh and Dhaka University Bangladesh. Dr. Khan has retired as Professor from Dhaka University Bangladesh. At present he is serving as Professor of Oceanography in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University Bangladesh. He has about 70 research publications in the peer reviewed journals, more than 50 conference papers and project articles. He has received best paper award from the Indian Geological Congress in 2013 and Dean’s Award from Dhaka University in 2016. He has written three books on:

i) Earthquake & Tsunami, ii) Petroleum Geophysics, iii) Sea Level Quandary. He has performed major research work on geophysics, tectonics, sedimentation, geohazards, groundwater and marine geology. Professor Khan has performed extensive geological field work in the Zagros Mountain Belt in Iraq, Himalayan Mountain Belt in India and Nepal, in Bangladesh, Malaysia and Borneo. His present research focuses on climate change, environment and pollution.

Professor Mahbuba Nasreen is currently serving as the Director of the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies (IDMVS), University of Dhaka, and the co-founder of the IDMVS. After obtaining MSS in Sociology from the University of Dhaka, Mahbuba has received Commonwealth Scholarship for pursuing her PhD Degree from Massey University, New Zealand and developed a pioneering grounded theory in the field of Gender and Disaster. She has received Mary Fran Myers Award, 2016 from the Natural Hazards Centre, University of Colorado (Boulder), USA for her three-decade long outstanding contributions in the field of Disaster and Gender studies. Dr Nasreen has had a long and distinguished career as a teacher and researcher in the fields of gender, disaster, climate change and social inclusion. She is both a distinguished academic and a representative of Bangladesh, a country with significant challenges that constantly confronts disasters.  She has contributed in several policies in Bangladesh as member of technical appraisal; advisory committee and author including education curriculum; SDGs; Background paper on Disaster Risk Reduction-Climate Change Adaptation for the Seventh Five Year Plan; Climate Change Gender Action Plan, Gender Toolkit on DRR, National Conservation Strategy and other Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh (GoB) led documents related to disaster and gender issues. She has been an active member of the National Disaster Management Advisory Committee (NDMAC), Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, (GoB) since 2010 as representative of the University of Dhaka. As an academia, Professor Mahbuba Nasreen has been continuously serving the country through participating at high level international dialogues, conferences, policy consultations and meetings being a member of the delegations of several ministries of the GoB. She has also participated in networking at an international level in Bangladesh delegations and as a member of the Women Major Group of UNISDR. Her advocacy of women as those involved in resilient responses to disaster rather than merely victims has been consistent and effective. Dr Nasreen has a large number of national and international publications including books, chapters in books, reports and articles in journals and periodicals. She is the supervisor of number of PhD and M.Phil dissertations in home and abroad.

Khaled Misbahuzzaman is a Professor at Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences in Chittagong University, Bangladesh. He has B. Sc. degree in Forestry (1989), PhD in Forest Restoration Ecology from Edinburgh University, UK (1999), and post-doctoral research experience in Tropical Forestry at Copenhagen University, Denmark (2009), Pennsylvania State University, USA (2010) and fellowship at Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society in Munich, Germany (2014). He has consultancy experience in Forestry with the Word Bank, FAO and UNDP. His research area broadly covers forest ecology and restoration. He has more than 40 research papers published in national and international journals/books.

Dr. Mercedes Farjas graduated at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) in 1982 as an engineering surveyor. After a few years with Universidad Politécnica de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria she returned to Madrid as Surveyor to the City Council. In 1989 she took a post as assistant professor at UPM, and during these years she completed first BSc and the PhD in Educational Science and then BSc in Geodesy and Cartographical Engineering. In 1996 she was made professor in Cartography and Surveying at UPM, where she is still working.

Research interests: 

Dr. Mercedes Farjas is very interested in 3D modeling and LiDAR. She has been working in new technologies applied to archaeology for more than 20 years. Her field of research focusses in 3D scanning, cartography and web mapping.

Dr. Suleyman Taban was born in 1959 in Turkey. He hes B.Sc. degree in Soil Science (1982), M.Sc degree in soil science (1984) and PhD degree in soil science (1990) from the Department of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, Faculty of Agriculture, Ankara University in Turkey. He has also worked as a pos-doctoral at University of California, Davis, USA (1993-1994), and visiting Professor at University of Ghent, Ghent, Belgium (1997).

Now, Dr. Suleyman Taban has been working as a full professor since 2000 at the Department of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, Faculty of Agriculture, Ankara University in Turkey. Prof.Dr. Suleyman TABAN has worked various positions during his carrier such as Head of Department at Department of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition (February 2002- October 2005), Dean, Faculty of Arts and Sciences-Kastamonu University-Turkey (July 2007-July 2010), Vice Rector of Kastamonu University (February 2008-July 2010), board member of Inter-University Council of Turkey (August 2007- July 2010). 

Prof.Dr. Suleyman TABAN’s main research areas: Plant Nutrition, Plant Physiology, Stress Physiology, Organic Fertilizer and Production, Soil Fertility and Fertilization, and Heavy Metal Analysis in both Soil and Plant, ICP-OES technique.

Prof. Dr. Suleyman Taban was completed total 12 M.Sc. thesis, and 5 PhD thesis. He was received scholarship for PhD by The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey. He is professional member of Turkish Soil Science Society, and Turkish Physiology Society. He has published over 70 research articles in national and international journals and over 50 national and international congress papers contributed as author/co-author and completed over 25 projects.

Gavrishin Anatoly Ivanovich, doctor of geological and mineralogical Sciences, Professor; Professor of Applied Geology of the South-Russian State Polytechnic University (NPI) named Platov; Member of the Russian academies of NATURAL SCIENCES and NATURAL HISTORY.

   A.I. Gavrishin is a large, well known in Russia and abroad scholar in Mathematical Geology, Hydrogeochemistry and environmental problems. For the first time in world practice, he developed and compiled the fundamentals as geochemical information, launched a new statistical test of "z-squared" (z²) and implemented computer programs multidimensional classification observations (G-method).

   The results of his research are presented in more than 350 scientific and methodical publications, including 19 monographs, textbooks, brochures, and more than 280 reports at scientific conferences. More than 100 works published by them in Russia and abroad in collaboration with foreign colleagues (Italy, France, Germany, United States) for the synthesis of hydrogeological,  spacechemical, astrophysical , distance and other types of data on Earth, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, comets, asteroids and in deep space. He passed a yearlong research fellow at the University of Rome and executed a cycle of studies within the framework of international scientific-technical cooperation with the Astrophysical Institute and the Institute of Physics of Interplanetary Space (Italy, Rome). He has successfully developed a methodology for monitoring urban geological environment; they studied and described hydrogeochemical patterns of forming of underground and mine waters Eastern Donbass. He is best known as the editor in charge of 16 intercollegiate collections of scientific papers.

   For successes in scientific and pedagogical activity, A.I. Gavrishin marked by domestic and foreign awards and titles. He was awarded 24 honorary and academic titles: Honored worker of higher education of the Russian Federation, Honored worker of science and education, the excellent prospecting, Professor Emeritus of SRSPU (NPI), etc.

   He was awarded 19 medals and decorations: “Medal of the order of merit for the fatherland of II degree”; “Gold Medal for Exceptional Achievements” (Belgium, Brussels); the order of “Labore et Scientia" (European industrial consortium); the order of "Peter the great"; the order of   "Alexander the great"; the gold medal of "European Quality»; a medal of “Wilhelm Leibniz"; "A gold medal named V.I. Vernadsky " etc.
